It was nothing out of the ordinary in the Bundesliga as Bayern Munich edged Werder Bremen with a 1-0 win, registering their eighth Bundesliga title on the trot.

Bayern secured the title in the most poetic fashion as their top scorer, Robert Lewandowski’s only goal in the match- his 31st league strike of the season, turned out to be the all-important goal for Munich. The win over Bremen was Bayern’s 11th successive win in the league, which means no team can mathematically overtake Munich’s point tally.

Like most seasons, Borussia Dortmund came closest to challenging Bayern for the title, but could not keep up with the momentum, they enjoyed before the drastic halt due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Dortmund had their best chance to lessen the gap in the second leg of the highly anticipated ‘Der Klassiker’ but it was Bayern who clawed a 1-0 win in an extremely even match, courtesy Joshua Kimmich’s exquisite lob over Dortmund goalkeeper, Roman Bürki.

The season, otherwise plagued by the pandemic outbreak, will be a cherished one for Munich not only because of their 29th league title, but also because of the vivacious brand of football introduced by their manager Hansi Flick who took over the reins from Niko Kovac last November.

Elsewhere in Germany, Wolfsburg secured a confident 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach with Jonathan Hofman scoring a brace and Lars Stindl bagging Wolfsburg’s third in the 65th minute.
